- Career making etc. are only short term goals of our life. Then, what is the long term goal i.e. purpose of our lives? It will be agreed by all that short term goals should be in accordance with our long term goals or in other words we can say that short term goals are made / prepared for the purpose of achieving our long term goals. But, when we do not know our long term goal, then how can our short term goals be right. This is the root cause of problems in our society. Only a small segment of our society, which is less than 0.00001% of the total population, knows the long term goal of their lives. Knowledge of long term goal of life by a few persons can hardly contribute anything towards resolving the problems of the society. As such, the way out to resolve the present problems of our society lies in the fact that most of the persons consisting of our society know the long term goals of their lives, so that their short term goals are in consonance with their long term goals.

- The greatest mean to know the purpose i. e. long term goals of our lives is our parents and teachers. The task of educating the individuals is handled by the parents in the intial stage, thereafter the task is taken over by the teachers. When the teachers are unable to be physically approachable to solve our problems, we should depend upon ‘self study’ and listening to the views of the great personalities, who themselves have resolved mysteries of life. Utmost care is needed for deciding the purpose of our life.  At every step, in this direction we should be guided by RATIONALITY & LOGIC.

- Our purpose of life is not to be Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian etc. but to become human beings. We, to become human beings must imbibe the principles of Spirituality in us. Like the presence of physical principles (characteristics of sound, electricity, magnetism, water, fire, revolving of earth etc.) in our physical world, there are certain principles in the spiritual world also. We must know them to become human beings. Broadly, these principles can be categorized in three parts. These parts are: to have knowledge about (i)  God (Ishwar), Souls (Jivatmas) & nature (Prakriti) (ii) To know about a thing as it is (iii)  Methodology to proceed towards God. Rationality & logic lie at the base of knowing the principles of spirituality.

-When human species is better than other species, then purpose of it, too, should be better. Eating, producing offsprings & bringing them up etc. cannot be the purpose of human beings since all these activities are done by other species also. Purpose of human life is getting rid of miseries. It is meaningless to ponder over the miseries of the past. Whatever, miseries are being suffered by us in the present time are the result of our past actions & it is impossible to escape these results but we can concentrate our actions and should do so to escape miseries of our future. Miseries are attached with our birth. All our life (during birth, during life & at the time of death), we are constantly grilled by miseries. To escape miseries is the very purpose of human life. For escaping/removing miseries, we are needed to end this cycle of birth & death and realisation of God is the solution to this.

-Following example will make the concept of ‘purpose of life’ more clear. Suppose, you are to go from Delhi to Chandigarh to attend a marriage function, an interview, a business meet etc. on a specific date & time. Though, you are to reach Chandigarh for a specific purpose on a specific date, on the way to  Chandigarh, you make certain sub-purposes like meeting an old friend in Panipat and purchasing sweets from a renowned shop in Ambala etc. But, on the way, you meet traffic hazards and the like, because of which, if you meet the old friend in Panipat and purchase sweets in Ambala, you cannot reach Chandigarh in time. Now, if you happen to focus on your purpose, you will have to forgo your sub-purposes and otherwise if you concentrate on fulfilling your sub-purposes, your purpose of going to Chandigarh will not be served. Right course is-you skip your sub-purposes with a thought that these will be met some other time and you strive hard to reach Chandigarh in time. Same thing happens with most of the people. First of all, they are not clear as to their ‘purpose of life’ and its importance. Secondly, they get engrossed in fulfilling sub-purposes of their lives and towards this end, they spend whole of their resources. For not getting allured by the sub-purposes, they must be very clear regarding importance of purposes of their lives.

-Not even the most foolish person does any work without an objective but most of the intellectuals attend different types of gatherings without understanding the purposefulness of the rituals etc., which are carried in such gatherings. Let’s take an instance. Till now, you may have attended many Hindu marriage ceremonies, but why the questions like why revolving?, why revolving around fire only? etc. haven’t arisen in your minds? There should be one main purpose of one’s life and to attain that many sub-purposes can be made. These are generally called long term goal and short term goals. Short term goals loses their meaningfulness, if they act as distraction from long term goal. For success, four things are said to be very basic to it. These are-time, action, intellect and direction. If we spend sufficient time for fulfilling our objective and put necessary efforts with the fullest use of the intellect needed for that but apply all these things in the wrong direction, then it is certain that we cannot reach our goal. Here, direction refers to our purpose of life. Everyone’s main objective is to get pleasure and bliss. Every action of ours should aim at receiving pleasure and bliss and we should avoid doing acts which do not bring pleasure and bliss. But, here, there is a strange principle at work. Principle is-we get eligible to obtain bliss, only if we think of the pleasures of others ahead of our own pleasures. To clarify this concept, we consider an example. Every time a woman on entering her kitchen for cooking thinks as to what should be cooked. She takes the decision keeping the tastes of other members of the family ahead of her own taste. Accordingly, if we succeed in developing a habit of thinking of pleasures of others before all our actions, then certainly, goal of obtaining bliss comes closer. Also, acting for the pleasures of others lie at the base of good social bondage.

The best way to celebrate one’s birthday is to analyse one’s achievements towards knowing the purpose of life and moving towards that direction. We must show some respect to our deeds because of which we are given this life of man. There can be said to be two things-(i) knowing the purpose of life (ii) moving towards achieving the purpose of our life. It is true that for moving towards achieving the purpose of life, we must first know the purpose itself. But in a certain time period, we do both the things simultaneously i.e. we refresh our purpose of life and move in the direction of achieving what had been thought by us to be our purpose of life. For doing the ibid two things, we must first realize that by passage of each moment, our life diminishes or shortens. It will enable us to start respecting time.. It is through time management only, that we can know  the purpose of our lives and move towards achieving that purpose. While deciding the purpose of life push away the basic hurdles, behind not accepting the truth, which are- stubbornness / rigidness and mentality of not going against present beliefs.

- There are two basic hurdles behind not accepting the truth and that are our stubbornness / rigidness and our mentality of not going against our beliefs.

-Generally, what happens is-we keep our utensil full with our earlier beliefs and at the same time show our eagerness to know more. The law is-a liquid can be poured into a utensil only if that utensil has some space (Here, we are assuming that the liquids have same densities). Along with our eagerness to know more, we must make sure that our utensil of beliefs has some space to entertain new beliefs otherwise we are hypocrites, who call themselves open-minded.

‘Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blind-folded fear.’- Thomas Jefferson

- Make it a habit to question everything you see, hear or do. To obtain an answer, presence of a question is must. Every sect, you may come across discourages asking of questions. But in a sense, we are alive only if we question our beliefs. In every sect we are asked to believe what is told to us without raising any question. But do not ever follow this path of not asking questions.

-Purpose of asking questions should never be downgrading others or showing greatness of one’s individual thoughts. To grasp anything new for satisfying the hunger of intellect should be the only purpose of asking questions. No doubt, questions can be asked for the purpose of testing the knowledge of others but ultimately, such testing should only be for the purpose of knowing more.

-O Man! For what reason have you come in the world? Have you come on your own will or has someone else send you? If you have come on your own will, then what is the purpose of your coming, because for innumerable times in the past you have come in this world? Was anything of yours left in this world in your previous birth (s)? Are you trying to take that thing in this birth? Try to obtain answers to these questions.

- There cannot be any unity in our thoughts and deeds until we all become like-minded as to the one, who should be worshiped by us all. As of now, we the Hindus worship hundreds of gods and still believe that God is one and all these hundreds of gods are manifestations (roops) of that one God. There is one simple method to know the truth. That method is use of RATIONALITY AND LOGIC in everything we believe or do.

- If we want to unite and have oneness in our thoughts, speech and movement, then it is must that we have the same God to depend upon. How is it possible when we believe different persons as God? It is possible only by knowing the true ‘swaroop’ of God. Knowledge of true ‘swaroop’ of God does not prevent us from paying our respect to our loved ones but it will encourage us to adore Him and only Him as God besides paying our respect to our loved ones.

- Healthy body and mind are the only sources available to us to know the purpose of our life, to accumulate the necessary means and to obtain the knowledge about usage of those means to achieve our purpose of life. As such, only those things (eatables and thoughts) should be put into our body which can make it healthier. Meat, is not considered good for our health. Since, meat can never be obtained without doing Hinsa (violence), it is considered bad for our mental health. For our physical health too, it is not considered good for the reason that it is not our natural food. Good food habits lie at the base for gaining spiritual knowledge.

- We must consciously put healthy eatables in our body and good thoughts in our mind, as healthy body & mind are the only sources available with us to do good to the society and to ourselves. As such, we are required to be cautious enough while deciding about eating /  seeing / viewing / watching / reading / listening and while sensing objects through our sense-organs. By doing these, we can walk better on the path of ‘Sadhna’ (acts necessary for achieving the purpose of life).

- All will agree that whatever we get, has been earned by us. But simultaneously, there is a belief that good habits will come to us, if we happen to obtain God’s grace without any thing to do on our part to earn those good habits. Let’s understand this, through an example. If we want to inculcate habit of speaking the truth in ourselves, God’s grace will not directly bring this habit in ourselves. There is only one method of bringing this habit in ourselves and that is through obtaining the knowledge of what is truth and what is untruth. And no knowledge can be obtained without use of vivek (judging capability of mind). After obtaining the knowledge, we have to practice speaking the truth (according to our intellect) till it becomes our habit. Likewise, other good habits have to be earned by ourselves. We must believe that we and only we are responsible for our good and bad habits. Now, what is GOD’S GRACE? God’s grace refers to increase in our abilities and knowledge. Showering of God’s grace mean selection of human beings, depending upon quantum of their good deeds, for increasing their abilities and knowledge.

God’ grace means selection of persons by God for bestowing certain proportion of His qualities to them. It is a sort of reward. There is a specific method to be eligible to earn God’s grace. What’s that method? The principle is-we become eligible to have God’s grace to the extent of our doing activities for the welfare of others. The more such activities get accumulated in our accounts, the more God’s grace is showered on us.

Youth of today are very much distracted from Spirituality for the reasons that there is no one in our families to tell them the true importance of spirituality, meaning of this term, its connection with our day to day problems / deeds, the price we have to pay for not getting inclined to spirituality etc. Also, they are distracted from spirituality for the reason that they observe that the so called religious beings of the society behave in a very irresponsible & unethical ways for their selfish gains without any sacrificing spirit towards the welfare of their fellow beings.

‘False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil.’- Socrates

- Nobody likes to accept anything which is even 1% impure. Then, how do we accept the thoughts contained in certain books, which we know are not 100% correct? Our mind knows the truth that such books contain certain things which are very illogical and irrational but still we are adamant enough and want others to accept all their thoughts. We should be cautious enough while reading books as they supply food (in the shape of thoughts) to our mind. They (books) should not contain a single untrue thought like we do not accept food, if it contains a little bad particle in it, which is harmful to our body, even if that food contains a lot of nutrients.
